Abstract
The role of hip abductor and physeal growth of greater trochanter on the development and growth of proximal femur were studied in 50 rabbits, aged 8 weeks. In tenotomy group, consisting of 25 rabbits, hip abductors were resected, while in epiphysiodesis group, greater trochanteric physis were partially damaged in the mid portion.
Neck-shaft angle, greater trochanteric plate-shaft angle and capital plate-shaft angle began to show statistically significant changes from post-operative 8th week in the tenotomy group while such changes were noticed from post-operative 4th week in epiphysiodesis group.
At the end of this experiment these angle changes reached maximum value and the changes of epiphysiodesis group was greater than those of tenotomy group. F But no changes in length were noticed in both group.
These results suggest that abductor muscle of the hip as well as greater trochanteric physis affect the development and growth of proximal femur.
